Gobustan

It is a volcanic desert of south-west of Baku along the Caspian shore. Here you will see rock drawings made by ancient people who used to live there in caves more than ten thousand years ago. Thor Heyerdal, the traveller and scientist from Norway, visited Azerbaijan twice only to see Gobustan.

PRIMITIVE MAN'S STAND IN GOBUSTAN

Gobustan is famous for its archeological monuments. Till now the scientists have studied about 20 primitive men stands and more than 30 barrows.

There is a museum-preserve in Gobustan (70 km from Baku) You can visit the center of ancient civilization, one of the first on Earth, see the exhibition of museum. Here you will see drawings on the rock, made more than 10 000 years ago
