Cloncurry, in Queensland’s north west, can lay claim to a number of significant achievements in the State’s history. Explorers Burke and Wills passed through the rugged country to the west of Cloncurry, the first regular QANTAS flight landed at Cloncurry and John Flynn established his first flying doctor base there.

Queensland Heritage Trails Network funding of $1M was used to carry out conservation works and to refurbish the 1939 Cloncurry Shire Hall. The Shire Hall houses an art gallery space, community meeting room and installations interpreting the historical significance of the building.

The Discovery Centre for visitor information is the starting point for a range of guided and self-guided tours that present the history of Cloncurry and special places in and around the town.

The trails guide visitors to such attractions as the Mary Kathleen Mine and township site, historic hotels, mining sites both old and new, the Chinese and Afghan cemeteries and the town’s Indigenous culture. Places to see in Queensland
